It takes time to open up to life. When I start to listen and sing all the songs from within, I begin to live fully.

Voice Movement Therapy (VMT)

VMT is an Expressive Art Therapy which employs the human voice as its main modality. Founded in UK by voice movement therapist Paul Newham, VMT draws upon a wider body of work in the therapeutic field that explores the power of voice in healing, including the work of vocal innovator and facilitator Alfred Wolfsohn, the theaterwork of actor and director Roy Hart, the acoustical analysis of Dr Paul Moses, the body work of Wilhelm Reich and the psychological principles of Carl Jung.

Embodied voice

It is only once the voice is firmly embodied that full expression of the self is possible. The process of embodiment of the voice brings out images, body memories and buried feelings which can be then expressed, contained and transformed through the medium of song. Your voice is enabled to expand and become more flexile, durable and versatile through specific movement exercises, breath work and vocal techniques.

Song of your life

VMT employs song as a creative container, which allows you to give voice to various aspects of yourself and your life. The song is developed in movement, non-verbal or verbal vocalization and improvisation. Further vocal ease and expression is facilitated by  movement investigation, imagery, enactement and massage. The massage is designed specifically to increase vocal and respiratory capacity whilst singing or speaking.
